iBooks

After Bryan won money gambling with my dad and brother on vacation, he came home and bought an iPad. It's a fun little gadget to have. One of my favorite apps: iBooks. It's a place to search and buy books - books I might have found anyway and books that might have never made it my way. Every so often I go looking for something new to read, and the thing I love about iBooks is that it gives me a sample of any book I might be interested in. Well I know the apple people give me these nasty little samples that end right at the moment I'm hooked so I will push my willpower aside and click BUY, but they won't get me (at least they haven't yet). I like to spend money, but I like to save money too, so after finding some books I like I head to the Lexington Public Library site and put the books on hold. So, there we wait, my willpower and me, on that happy email that says I have books on hold! The last book in Nora Roberts' Bride Quartet comes out in November - oh willpower, will you stay strong???

Well, on to tonight's book: The Food Matters Cook Book (by Mark Bittman). If you've seen Food Inc (very interesting documentary about the food business in the US) you've seen Mark Bittman. His deal: eat more fruits, veggies, whole grains, and beans while cutting back on the meat, seafood, chicken, sugar, white flour, and junk food. I can subscribe to his thinking and already am on my way there, but can do much better. Anyway, this book has a few recipes (but of course, I would actually have to PAY to see them all) that I'm willing to try to put more veggies and natural foods into my diet - not just for weight loss, but for overall body health. Maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas? No, that's a lame gift to buy someone. I guess I'm going to use one of my Joseph-Beth gift cards that I've been hording away for a special occasion. I'll be sure to post the good recipes.

Other Books I'm interested in that you might like too:
  • Room (Emma Conoghue)
  • Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter (Tom Franklin)
  • A Reliable Wife (Robert Goolrick)
  • Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk (David Sedaris) - have you read any David Sedaris? It's laugh-out-loud funny stuff. He's a must read author.
  • Talking to Girls About Duran Duran (Rob Sheffield) - it's about the 80s, need I say more?
  • The Man Who Lied to His Laptop (Clifford Nass)

I hope to read all of these books eventually, we'll see.

Today I am thankful for:

  • not having a tornado come through town while at work, or anytime really
  • not having meetings after work today
  • talking to my mom and dad today

do you love it?

I was looking at PW's favorite blogs and I found this one, Living Locurto, that has links to free downloads of all sorts of things - including blog layouts, like the ones on Aqua Poppy Designs. I chose this one, and I'm liking it. There was a close second choice though.
Since the layouts are free, I can change as often as I like. Golly, life is great.

The internet is soooo fun. Blogs are fun cause you can keep looking at other blogs on the blog roll and then people have links to all kinds of things.

Well, I was looking at this blog when I watched the video for Lady Antebellum's new song as she suggested. It got me to thinking about guys that are not hot, but are - kind of like the male lead singer in my opinion. Top of my list of not-hot hot guys: Kevin Bacon. 'Gotta cut loose, foot loose, kick of your Sunday shoes!'

Is it the attitude (I can dance AND change the rules in your stupid town)? Is it some definable characteristic (like crazy bed head no matter what time of day)? Is it the smile (Bryan might smile at me like that if I wore cowgirl boots and ruffle tops like Ariel, hmmmm).

One last note as I ramble about my favorite not-hot hot guy: Bryan doesn't ever share his 'list' with me (if you've watched Friends, you know what I'm talking about) or talk about how hot the girls are on tv - even when I ask. I guess he only has eyes for me. Kiss that, Ariel :).
